Which doctor/nurse works on which day?
To book an appointment call 01306 881313 or book online via the link at the top of this page – please ask a receptionist to set you up a password and username.
If you have a muscular strain or a joint problem, such as knee, hip, back or neck pain, then please speak with our Receptionists about booking into see our new team of Clinical Musculoskeletal Specialists. Rather than waiting for a GP to refer you, they will be able to see you directly and offer advice, treatment, targeted exercises and specialist referral if needed.
Each GP offers a minimum of 15 routines in the morning and 12 in the afternoon. The rest of their time is spent doing home visits, telephoning patients, dealing with correspondence and dictating referral letters. 70% are released two weeks in advance and 30% are released on the day of the appointment.
Sit-and-wait same day appointments
These are bookable in advance for people whose condition cannot wait until tomorrow.
They are often mistakenly used for:
- People who feel their employer makes it difficult for them to take time off work to visit their GP.
- People who have had a condition for weeks but suddenly decide needs attention.
- People who have one "urgent" matter and several other "routine" matters that could wait.
The Duty Doctor will run a sit-and-wait surgery from 4 to 6 pm daily. You still need to book to attend during this time.
New House Surgery offers a late night surgery on Tuesdays until 20:30.
Patients will be offered the first routine appointment with the doctor of their choice. If unacceptable, they will be offered an earlier appointment with another doctor. If it is critical that the patient is seen the same day (and there are no routines left), the receptionist will take the patient's contact details and send an electronic message to the Duty Doctor. This may result in an appointment with the patient's usual doctor or another doctor.
Appointments are released at least two weeks in advance although some special clinics, such as diabetes or heart disease clinic appointments are released much further in advance. We tend not to release appointments too far in advance because the number of patients not turning up tends to increase the further in advance the appointment is booked.

Appointments are 10 minutes long so if you need more time, please book a double appointment. Please discuss the most important thing first in case you run out of time.

The Practice is run by 4 partners who employ 7 salaried GPs, 2 regular long-term locum GPs, 4 managers, 5 part-time nurses, 3 healthcare assistants, 2 administrators, 2 medical secretaries and 12 medical receptionists.
Help Us To Help You!
- Please arrive on time and let us know quickly if you cannot attend – about 120 people do not turn up every month.
- If you are late, please do not ask to be seen immediately. This delays everyone after you.
- Please be understanding. If we are running late, it may be that a patient has been taken seriously ill or is distraught and therefore not able to be left alone.
- Please book a double appointment if you have lots to discuss.
- Please give the receptionist an outline of why you need the appointment – the partners have asked them to collect this information to help us manage demand.
- If you are unable to leave the house and need a GP or nurse to visit, please call before 10.30 to allow us time to put arrangements in place.
- Please call after 11.00 for general enquiries as this will help to relieve pressure on the telephone system.
Consider asking to see a nurse or health care assistant instead of a GP if it is something that can be dealt with by them e.g. BP check, blood test etc.
What we can do
- We will continue to offer the high number of appointments that we currently do – the number we offer is one of the highest in the area.
- We will keep you informed of delays so that you can decide how long you are prepared to wait.
- We will always try to give you an appointment with the GP of your choice.
- We will continue to offer you the chance to speak to a doctor, nurse or receptionist on the telephone throughout the day. If a quick phone call would save an appointment, please ask the receptionist to log a message on our system and the doctor will call you back later that day.
- We will offer pre-booked, routine appointments two or three evenings per week.
